Lunch: Homework or...

Our 2nd grader conveniently didn't bring his homework home yesterday, so today's lunch offers a silly reminder from pirates about the importance of homework.

Woah! Pack lunch?

I did it. I almost forgot to pack lunches for the twins. Thank goodness for my treasure chest of goodies. These little lamb rings make this oh so boring lunch a little more fun.

3 Lunch Friday

It's been a long week, and I was tempted to *gasp* give our oldest $ for a school cafeteria lunch. I managed to pull it together long enough to make sandwiches, pull out cookie cutters for fruit leather and sandwiches, cut some apple slices, mix peanut butter and honey and top with heart sprinkles, and cut some "Aussie apples."  Regular sandwich boxes, a food container with dip cup, and rubberbands (yes, really) hold today's lunches.

Bento: L is for LOVE

Scrabble Cheez-its, Sweethearts,  and fruit leather spell love in each compartment of today's Laptop Lunch.

Bento: Love with my Whole Heart

My hubs is out of town, and I had a late night for work yesterday and a long day today with an early release from school within the madness. This was an "in a hurry" lunch. Sandwich, fruit leather (adhered with honey), and a cookie cutter make it a little more fun than just a sandwich. A peanut butter bar, dried pineapple,  and fruit snacks finish out this lunch.

Bento: Sweetheart

This morning's Laptop Lunch is comprised of a honey wheat sandwich with a heart cutout and 4 Sweethearts, dried pineapple with a heart food pick from  AllThingsForSale.com, and a quartered apple with heart cutouts using the same cookie cutter I used on the sandwich and a small sharp knife to lift the apple's skin.

 

Bento: Heart Month

This Monday morning Laptop Lunch has a printable note from Chef Solus encouraging being active for a healthy heart.  The honey wheat sandwich has 2 hearts cut with cookie cutters, and one is outlined with a red Wilton Food Writer.  A peanut butter bar fills the rest of the large container.  Dried pineapple and blueberries fill the other 2 Laptop Lunch compartments and have heart-shaped food pics from AllThingsForSale.com.

Bento: Love

This Monday morning Laptop Lunch has 1/2 of a banana with "pressure-writing" on it that says, "Love," and a heart-shaped pick.  The top right corner is dried blueberries, and the bottom right is filled with dried pineapple - both with heart-shaped picks from AllThingsForSale.com.  Homemade bread was used for the sandwich and lips were drawn with a Wilton Food Writer and filled in with sugar sprinkles.

Love.

3 Bento Friday: Love

It is Friday, which means packed lunches for twin 3-year-olds and a 2nd grader in our house. It may not be February yet, but love is always a good theme. Wavy heart-shaped cookie cutters and Wilton Food Writers helped these standard lunches be a little more fun.  The twin lunches are in Laptop Lunch Sandwich boxes from the Bento Buddies or Salad sets, and the 2nd grader lunch is in the Bento Lunch with an extra large box for the sandwich as well.

Custom Built-In and Cushion

Our 7 year old needed a better system for storage and use of space in his room. I measured and sketched what I thought would work best, and my Father-In-Law built this amazing piece and installed it while we were on vacation.  It is so much more than I dreamed, and he even included a secret compartment for our spy-obsessed little guy.

I bought a piece of foam and covered it in gray duck canvas, because the fabric I wanted was $60/yard. I used the same method I did with my dining room chairs to create "subway art" word art. Now, it's a perfect match for his NYC themed room, and it cost less than $25 (with coupons)  to make the custom cushion for the reading nook.
